[15.04.2008] Lawson Software (Nasdaq: LWSN) announced a new global program to provide company-paid volunteer time.

Through this program, Lawson will allow each Lawson employee to use up to eight hours of company-paid work time during a calendar year to volunteer for an approved community service activity.

The program is designed to support Lawson employees who currently do various types of community service and to help motivate other employees to volunteer their time in their communities. The company made the announcement during the 2008 Lawson Conference and User Exchange (CUE) in Las Vegas.

Lawson employees are committed to the communities where we live and work," said Harry Debes, president and chief executive officer for Lawson. "We also know that people are very busy, so finding time to volunteer can be challenging. We wanted to create a program that would make it easier for Lawson employees to lend a hand where it can make a meaningful difference."

The new program will begin during Lawson's first quarter of fiscal 2009, which begins June 1, 2008. This effort to promote volunteerism is part of the company's broader focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR). It is based on the simple idea that, if every one of Lawson's more than 4,000 employees worldwide offers eight hours of community service, the company could ultimately provide up to 34,000 hours of volunteer time around the world annually. The company is allowing employees to volunteer for approved non-profit, non-political programs and causes that they support. Through the program, the company is also encouraging employees look for projects where they can volunteer as a group to help foster team building within Lawson.
